Introduction
The Sultanate of Oman has strived ahead in leaps and bounds over recent years in all areas of growth, both economically and industrially. The exchange of information and knowledge is crucial to the development of any nation in helping it to enhance its future, and assuring it’s successful and sustainable development. The Caledonian College of Engineering, Oman (CCEO) has been contributing to the social, economical and industrial development of the Gulf region for over ten years through high quality technical education. The College was founded in 1996 and established in Oman as the affiliate of Glasgow Caledonian University (UK). Since its inception, it is recognised as one of the most successful private colleges in the Sultanate. In 2002, Caledonian was made the Gulf Centre for Engineering Education, a satellite centre of the UNESCO International Centre for Engineering Education (UICEE). The Caledonian College has strength and experience in arranging both regional and international conferences having hosted other forums in the past, and looks forward to organising this International Conference on Harnessing Technology (ICHT): “Challenges & Opportunities in GCC States”.
Past Conference History
As mentioned previously, as a result of this forum, the College will be adding to a list of past successful conferences that have been conducted. In March of 2004 the Built & Natural Environment Engineering Department hosted the first National Conference on “Design and Construction Practices in Hot & Arid Regions”. In October of 2005 CCEO hosted the first ever Regional Conference on “Recent Trends in “Maintenance Management” organised by the Mechanical Engineering Department, and in February 2006, CCEO played host to the UICEE’s “9th Annual International Conference on Engineering Education”.
